His 528i as of yesterday. I was helping him wire in electric heated seats and trying to fit an electric steering column. Plenty got done but it still looked pretty much the same when I left.

How do you have Nav but no electric column or heated seats? What a weird option combo.

The nav is an aftermarket system fitted by the previous owner.

I see. Meanwhile I have the seats and column but no nav.

That’s a whole lot of wires....
I take it from this that none of the functions had been pre-wired?

That’s probably a lot more common, nav wasn’t as relevant in the 90s as it is now.

Na all the wiring had to be run for it.

Yikes, good on you for all that work. I would have gone with the heated seats and forgotten about the steering column.

I can’t even put in an aftermarket unit because I have the DSP sound system and it will only work with the original head unit.
What I really need is the heated steering wheel. Leather is very cold at 5am on a January morning.

Heat steering wheels are fantastic. That and heated windscreens are a godsend in winter. I wish my cars had gadgets...
